If you are locked inside during a blackout or the garage door opener refuses to work for some reason, these are the steps you should take;
- Check hardware like springs and to make sure everything is intact and the system has no damage.
- Pull the emergency cord (red) to untie the release lever on the carriage of the garage door opener.
- Lift the garage door so that it opens all the way and stops moving.
- Drive the vehicle out of the garage and shut the garage door.
- Ensure that there is another access point into your home before leaving the garage.
- When you get back to the garage, remember to re-engage the release mechanism, push the lever upward using a broom handle, or use a ladder climb and push the lever. Alternatively, you could pull the release cord upward in the direction of the motor until it clicks.

How to reset the garage door opener
If you have opened the garage door manually there is a reset process to be done, a fairly straight forward process. Once the lever is back in place the garage door is ready to function normally. There are models that may require the carriage to be aligned with the turnbuckle on the chain. If the opener does not function when the power is back on you can unplug the opener and plug it back in after about 30 seconds. This lets the system reset so that you can check whether the carriage is re-engaged. Call your garage door installer if you experience
